Generally, Valmeinier consists of two authentic traditional villages situated about 300m apart; Valmeinier 1500 and Valmeinier 1800 (with the number corresponding to their altitude) which is more modern and purposely built for winter sports.

For people who want to enjoy quiet and tranquillity, Valmeinier 1500 is a good option. The vibe is pretty laid back so it’s easy to have a relaxing week. Valmeinier 1800, on the other hand, is a little bit lively, with a great selection of bars, shops and restaurants.

Together with Valloire resort, they form the Galibier-Thabor ski area which offers skiers over 150 km of slopes. This resort satisfies the visitors in equal measures from families to novice skiers and intermediaries.

With over 70% of the Galibier-Thabor ski area being above 2000m, snow conditions are mostly fantastic throughout the season and this means you have a lot of flexibility when planning your ski holiday.

With more than 20 beginner-friendly runs and the general terrain rated ‘easy’, you can have a fulfilling getaway if it’s your first time on the slopes.

The location of this resort is unrivalled and the best part is that it’s within the protected area of Vanoise National park which means it’s probably one of the finest French Alps secrets and the landscape is pretty much unspoilt.

With a Valmeinier ski pass, you get to access the whole area of Valmeinier and Valloire (Galibier-Thabor ski area) but you can also upgrade if you want to ski on other villages in Maurienne valley.

If you’d rather enjoy one ski area at a time, in Valmeinier you’ll have some flexibility of purchasing ski passes every day to suit your desires of where you want to ski on that particular day.

When it comes to accommodation you’ll be spoilt for choice with a variety of packages on catered chalets and self-catered apartments. You’ll find a range of options for all budgets and tastes.

Valmeinier Nearest Airport

Valmeinier Weather

Situated in the Maurienne Valley just 15km south of the famous Vanoise National park, Valmeinier nearest airport is Chambery which is the most convenient route at about one hour and 20 minutes’ drive away.

Accessing the resort is pretty easy especially with the bus transfer services from Lyon and St Michel Valloire train station which is nearby.

The bus transfers are regular which shortens the transfer time and you also have the option to hire a car or ski lifts as alternatives to access the resort.

Lyon airport is the second closest to the resort and there are direct transfers.
